1. America250 - 250th Anniversary of the United States
Throughout 2026 - Nationwide (U.S.)

Sister Cities International has been named an official Supporting Partner of America250. As the United States marks its 250th year of independence, communities such as Great Falls and their sister city partners are invited to participate in commemorative events that celebrate international friendship, shared democratic values, and cross-border cooperation.


2. United Nations Day
October 24, 2026 - International Observance

United Nations Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945 and celebrates the ideals of peace, cooperation and mutual understanding that twinning relationships are built on.



3. World Cities Day
October 31, 2026 - International Observance

World Cities Day promotes international cooperation among cities and highlights the role municipal partnerships play in sustainable development. Sister city organizations are encouraged to organize cultural showcases, educational presentations, and community celebrations recognizing their global relationships.


4. Remembrance Day and Veterans Day
November 11, 2026 - Lethbridge, AB & Great Falls, Montana

On November 11 Canadians observe Remembrance Day, and our friends in Great Falls and Culver City observe Veterans Day. We remember and honour those who served, and the peace that our two countries have shared for generations.



5. US Thanksgiving - Greetings to Our American Friends
November 26, 2026 - Great Falls, Montana & Culver City, California

Our best wishes go to our friends and Sister City partners in Great Falls and Culver City as they celebrate Thanksgiving.



6. Human Rights Day
December 10, 2026 - International Observance

Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10, the day the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in 1948. It is a reminder that goodwill and understanding between people begin with respect for everyone.



7. Hinamatsuri - Japanese Girls Day
March 3, 2027 - Towada, Japan

Hinamatsuri, also known as Girls Day or the Doll Festival, is celebrated in Japan on March 3. Families display traditional dolls and wish girls health and happiness. It is a good moment to think of our friends in Towada ahead of the spring Cherry Blossom exchange.



8. 47th Annual "Ice Breaker Road Race"
Late April, 2027 - Great Falls, Montana (date to be confirmed)

Our Sister City of Great Falls hosts its traditional spring road race through the downtown district and along the River's Edge Trail, with 5-mile, 3-mile and 1-mile races. Dates and registration details will be posted once they are announced by the organizers at RunSignup. Lethbridge Twinning Society members and friends are welcome to join us!
